From West Cornwall to National TV: How Cultura Made it onto James Martin’s Saturday Morning Show.
Here’s a little story we didn’t expect to be telling! It’s not every day that humble pouches of kimchi and krauts get their moment in the TV spotlight, but that’s exactly what happened to us at Cultura – and we’ve got a lovely lady named
Lotte Duncan to thank for it!
Paul, our founder, met Lotte at The Food Barn, an amazing farmers market near Falmouth, Cornwall. Lotte’s a chef and a judge at the Great Taste Awards, so when she tried our kimchi and called it the best she’d ever tasted (and she’s tried a lot!), we were delighted. We didn’t realise at the time, but that one comment set the whole thing in motion.
Lotte was impressed and reached out to Sam at James Martin’s Saturday Morning show on ITV, and suggested they feature us in their small producer segment. Just a few weeks later, we were on a video call with James in his outdoor kitchen, cooking up some burgers with michelin starred chef Gareth Ward, from Ynyshir restaurant , all featuring our kimchi and krauts.
It was a relaxed and fun vibe. The segment also gave viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into our small fermentary, set deep in the West Cornish mining countryside, showing how we carefully craft our products.
So, a H U G E thank you to Lotte for putting us on the map and to the team at James Martin’s Saturday Morning Show for giving us the chance to share what we make! The fact that our little fermentary has been on national TV still feels surreal but it was loads of fun. We are just a team of two (with lots of lovely family help) but we love what we do and are passionate about getting flavour and nutrition into everyday meals and we are chuffed to have had the opportunity to spread the word about our raw and unpasteurised lacto-fermented pickles
If you missed the show, you can catch up on ITVX, we’re on around 5 minutes in..
